Personalised Svastha Yoga Sessions

Personalised yoga sessions are designed according to your goals, and give opportunity to explore key skills and practices from across Svastha domains. In Sanskrit Svastha means a state of complete health or balance. Here balance refers to being in a state that is 'sattvic' or calm, clear and present.

'Yoga is about replacing inappropriate patterns with new more appropriate patterns'

Krishnamacharya

The core Svastha yoga domains are what you might typically think of as yoga: Movement (asana and vynasa), Breath (pranayama) and Awareness (meditation, mindfulness and contemplation). The additional domains include: thought, emotion, lifestyle, nutrition, relationship and life-meaning; and underpinning the process of transformation lies the domain of 'habit & change'. Each domain is considered through the yoga or ayurvedic lens.

What to expect in your personalised Yoga Sessions

Session 1

Clarifying goals

During the first session we'll use the Svastha assessment map to gain clarity on your practice goals and intentions. You may find that you have one overarching goal, or you may have different areas that you want to work on.

Based on your goals we'll begin to explore one or two skills or practices from key domains...for example, if your goal is to practice yoga for a healthy back the dominant focus could be skills from the domain of movement (asana / vinyasa).

We'll identify practises that you can continue at home.

Session 2

Skills from the Svastha domains

There will be opportunity to reflect on any impact from your initial home practice and any skills explored in the first session.

If appropriate, you'll be able to revisit these skills during the session, to consolidate and refine.

New skills and practises relevant to your goals will also be introduced. These may be from one or more of the Svastha domains.

We'll identify further key practices for you to try at home during the week.

Session 3

Building continuity and consistency

It takes times to build a relationship with the yoga practices, so that you can integrate them into your life in a natural way.

Again, there will be an opportunity to reflect on the impact of any home practice. We'll celebrate your progress and any personal success and there will be time to explore questions about your practice.

Where applicable, key skills will be revisited; and new skills will be introduced and practised.

Once again, you'll be able to consider which practices to try at home.

Session 4

Ongoing progress

There will be opportunity to reflect and review and layer in new practices.

By the end of your initial 4 weeks of personalised yoga you will have developed a set of skills that match your goals and needs.

Since the process is dynamic, you will be able to adjust the focus of your practice by revisiting your overarching goal(s).

What next? Following your initial sessions, you can decide if your want to continue with 1-2-1 personalised yoga or join a group class.

Note: Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda is based on the authentic knowledge & practice of A.G. and Indra Mohan & their son Ganesh.

A.G.  and Indra Mohan were students of Krishnamacharya - the father of modern day yoga.

Through my personal practice I continue to learn from the Mohan family and will be joining them on retreat in Chennai, January 2025.

Please remember to consult with your doctor before taking on any new exercise programme, including yoga.

Yoga is not a substitute for medical or psychological advice or care, though developing a yoga practice may offer complementary support.
